Originally from Italy and now based in South Devon, England, Gaia Aldi is a narrative documentary photographer and videomaker. Working primarily with analogue photography, Gaia is drawn to the rich, tactile, and meditative nature of shooting on film. Her work explores themes of human experience, nature, and existential curiosity.
Gaia graduated with a degree in photography from Arts University Plymouth and has since continued to develop her editorial and narrative practice. Her work has been featured in various gallery exhibitions, including Unwritten, a collaborative group show in May 2024 at Ocean Studios, Royal William Yard, Plymouth. In early 2024, she released her first photo book titled Visions, a quiet reflection on photography, time, performance, and the science of seeing through the lens of film photography. Alongside new zines inspired by her other projects, Fernweh and And So Nature Returned To Take It Back, she published her lasted photobook titled Un Momento in May 2025.
Gaia uses her camera to tell quiet stories rooted in belonging, distance, and the idea of home, not as a fixed place, but as an emotion. Her narrative documentary photography is often inspired by philosophy, poetry, and elements of physics, as seen in projects like Visions and Ferweth, where abstract ideas take visual form.
As a photographer with a love for travel and a bubbly, outgoing spirit, Gaia often documents her creative journey through her blog. There, you’ll find behind-the-scenes stories, photography walks, reflections, and updates from recent projects. Community is at the heart of her work, so don’t hesitate to get in touch—whether to collaborate, ask questions, or simply chat about film photography, old or new.
