Visions
How much does our sight stretch? Can we see time?
Vision is an open-ended investigation into the act of seeing: how our brain and eyes collaborate to process visual information, and how photography, in turn, shapes and is shaped by perception. At its core, the project questions the privilege of sight, pushing beyond its limitations to explore ideas of time, presence, and action within the stillness of a photograph. Can something be present in an image, even if it’s not visible?
This body of work leans into ambiguity, drawing from philosophical inquiry to create a subtle sense of fiction, a tension born from what resists clear definition. The images become spaces for speculation, where visual perception meets conceptual questioning.
These ideas are gathered into a compact book, where the photographs are accompanied by research drawn from physics, quantum theory, and the broader discourse of photography itself. I approached the visual composition with intention: experimenting with both centered and marginal framings, positioning myself at the edges of the frame or within panoramic stitches to challenge traditional perspectives.
Using a range of film cameras — including the XPan, Spinner 360, and various medium format models — I explored the physicality of the photographic process. Throughout, I reflected on the weight of meaning photography often carries, and became increasingly intrigued by its indexical nature: the way it both records and invents, points to reality while also shaping it.
